Book artists/performers early, whether they are international stars or the local children's entertainer. The same applies to entertainment and concessionaires, such as ice cream sellers.
Artists/Performers
An individual artist or group of artists/performers may be the whole concept/theme of your festival or event. You cannot afford to get this wrong. If this is the case, use a professional agency which can handle the detailed requirements. www.entsweb.co.uk/agencies provides a list of agencies internationally (including Wales). The Arts Council for Wales can provide advice and has an arts performance database (www.artswales.org/default.asp and see Regional Contact Lists).
ENTERTAINMENT/CONCESSIONAIRES
These include funfair rides, fast food providers, ice cream sellers and bouncy castles. Find these via:
- Personal recommendation (eg. other event organisers)
- Yellow Pages
- Internet (try search engines)
Trade organisations, such as the Showman's Guild, have a free listing of all funfair providers at www.showmen.co.uk
Once you have decided on a supplier, issue confirmations and booking details according to the TIMELINE Chart.
Key Points:
- Book as far ahead as legally possible
- Make sure all contacts are correct and signed
- If children are involved in performances, check and follow requirements for legal clearance
- Make sure that the artists/performers fit the theme/concept of the event
